These developers build these houses thinking that they will make a huge profit from the sales of these houses. There is no longer the niche of buyers who gobble up these new houses. The baby boomers want to down size and live in condos with attached garage parking so they never have to brave the elements getting in and out of their cars. They don't care much for community. They are not like their parents generation known as the "Veteran Generation" that likes a sense of community where they live. Then you have "Genereration X and Y" one of which is similar to the veterans as far as wanting a sense of community where they live and the other wants "Green" environmentally sounds homes(right now I can't remember which wants which being 7 am and I need coffee), but the next generation, "Generation Z" who wants high tech living which these McMansion developers may not be delivering them.
